Letter to the Editor: Help Small Businesses by Repealing Health Insurance Tax

Jaeck: Help small businesses by repealing health insurance tax

Per the latest news, it now appears an Obamacare repeal and replace legislation is likely to happen this spring. But as previous letter writers have noted, one aspect that is not only easy to repeal, but needs no replacement, is the Health Insurance Tax included in Obamacare.

A tax on health insurance plans used to pay for other parts of Obamacare, there is no need for this tax, which is especially harmful to small businesses if we’re going to repeal Obamacare in a matter of months. This ridiculous tax could cost small businesses billions of dollars next year if it is not repealed soon as insurance plans for next year are being crafted right now.

Small businesses need some certainty. Certainty that they won’t be hit with a tax for a law that is going to be repealed anyways. Some certainty that a tax won’t be the thing driving up their health care costs. Some certainty that they can put revenues towards training their employees, giving them raises and increasing their hiring rather than shelling out more money for Obamacare.

The Health Insurance Tax is low hanging fruit and should be repealed immediately. Contact Speaker Ryan and Senator Ron Johnson and other federal elected officials and tell them to end this costly tax.
