Letter to the Editor: Health Insurance Tax of Obamacare is worthless

Health Insurance Tax of Obamacare is worthless

Small business owners are hurting from ever-increasing insurance premiums and Obamacare is not helping. The Health Insurance Tax, which was passed as part of Obamacare, is a direct tax on the health insurance coverage we offer our employees. We get nothing out of this tax, except higher premiums, which hits our employees and us in the pocketbooks.

Our last health insurance renewal saw premium increases go up nearly 20 percent, an increase we split with our employees. Estimated to cost about $500 per year, per employee, the Health Insurance Tax takes away money that we would normally invest in growing our business, giving raises, or hiring more employees.

The Health Insurance Tax is ridiculous and so detrimental to small businesses like ours, there is bipartisan support to end it, and it’s time Congress do just that.

Call Paul Ryan and your other federal elected officials. Tell them small businesses and employees have a hard enough time affording health insurance, we don’t need a tax making it more difficult. Tell them to repeal the Health Insurance Tax immediately, even before the details of a full Obamacare repeal are worked out.
