Stop The HIT Coalition Statement on Bipartisan Senate Letter Calling for HIT Relief

The Stop The HIT Coalition, which represents small business owners, their employees and the self-employed, issued the following statement in response to a joint bipartisan letter to Majority Leader McConnell and Minority Leader Schumer urging their support of HIT relief in the lame duck session.

“The Stop The Coalition applauds Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Doug Jones (D-AL) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) for supporting small businesses and their employees by urging Senate Leadership to prioritize relief from the 2020 Health Insurance Tax (HIT) during the lame duck session.

For the 142 million Americans that would be impacted by the return of this regressive tax, we join our Senate champions in calling on Congress to prioritize HIT relief and provide hardworking families with immediate and necessary cost savings of as much as $480 on average in the small group market.”

In a letter addressed to Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, the bipartisan group reiterated the urgent need for immediate action.

“Looking ahead to 2020 and beyond, it is important for Congress to continue to focus on lowering health insurance premiums. This is especially important for small businesses and America’s seniors. We strong encourage you to ensure Congress address this priority in the final weeks of the 115thCongress.”
