Stop The HIT Coalition Commends
Senator Cory Gardner on HIT Delay Bill

Following the introduction of S. 1859 to delay the Health Insurance Tax (HIT), members of the Stop The HIT Coalition commended Senator Cory Gardner for his work to provide critical relief to the millions of hardworking Americans struggling to afford the cost of rising premiums.

After a one-year suspension of the HIT, the tax returns next year–adding to the cost of coverage for small businesses and their employees, seniors, and families. Senator Gardner and his colleagues’ efforts to delay the HIT would save middle-class families roughly $500 next year, according to a report from Oliver Wyman.

The letter notes that, “By suspending this tax, S. 1859 reaffirms Washington’s commitment and promise to make coverage more affordable. Indeed, continuing the suspension of the HIT would play an important role in addressing the cost and access challenges facing consumers and small businesses.”

We applaud you and your colleagues who joined you in introducing this legislation. In 2015, we were encouraged when a bipartisan group of nearly 400 Republicans and Democrats in the House and the Senate came together to suspend the HIT for 2017. We are committed to working with you to continue to build support for this effort. “

Stop The HIT Coalition members have voiced their individual support for Senator Gardner’s legislation including, amoung others, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Wholesale-Distributors and National Federation of Independent Business.
