Small Businesses Applaud House Legislation to Fully Repeal the Health Insurance Tax

Washington, D.C. – The Stop The HIT Coalition, one of the leading organizations representing small business owners, their employees and the self-employed, issued the following statement following introduction of H.R. 2447, the Jobs and Premium Protection Act, bipartisan legislation to fully repeal the ACA’s Health Insurance Tax (HIT) introduced by U.S. Representatives Anthony Brindisi (D-NY) and Kenny Marchant (R-TX).

“The continued support to eliminate the discriminatory, harmful cost burden of the health insurance tax is one of the most important steps that policymakers can take to protect small businesses. Already, many small businesses that are in the process of renewing their coverage are now facing hundreds of dollars in added premium cost that they can’t afford. In the next year alone, the HIT will force small businesses to pay nearly $500 more in health insurance premiums per family.

We applaud the bipartisan collaboration between Rep. Brindisi and Rep. Marchant and their work to fully end this tax before it undermines the growth and stability of our small businesses moving forward. With state premium rate filing deadlines quickly approaching, we urge leaders in both the House and the Senate to prioritize HIT relief before this tax erodes the affordable coverage that millions of Americans depend on for their health.”
